Winning finalists announced for the 10th anniversary Gold Service Scholarship

We’re delighted to announce the names of the eight talented front-of-house professionals who have made it through to the final of the Gold Service Scholarship 2022.

Candidates this year spanned the length and breadth of the country, with entrants representing the restaurant, hotel, and foodservice sectors.

The 33-strong semi-final was held at the Rosewood London last week where candidates were assessed on their practical and theory-based skills.

The finalists are:

  • Julien Beltzung, Executive Sommelier, The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant, Perthshire
  • Harry Champion, Private Membership Club Manager, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club
  • Max Daglish, Assistant Restaurant Manager, Northcote Hotel, Lancashire
  • Manon Gaillard, Senior Footman, Royal Household
  • Thomas Gammella, Restaurant Manager, Clockspire Restaurant, Somerset
  • Riccardo Migliorini, Chef de Rang, Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester
  • Valentina Pirri, Guest Relations Manager, Davies and Brook, Claridge’s

The final of the Gold Service Scholarship will take place on Monday 24 January 2022 at The Northall, Corinthia London. The eight winning finalists will be judged by leading figures in the hospitality sector. Their tasks will be to receive and look after a party of four guests and impress them with a range of technical and social skills during the course of a lunch.

The new 2022 Gold Service Scholar will then be announced at a gala reception in February (date to be confirmed) at Claridge’s

In the past nine years of the competition, some remarkable talents have emerged, and they are fulsome in their praise for the nurturing guidance and leadership provided throughout their Gold Service Scholarship experience. Comments from recent Scholars include:

Elizabeth Forkuoh (Gleneagles) – 2020 Scholar

“Shortly after gaining the prestigious title, the world changed completely. Even though my educational prizes and trips have not yet taken place, I embraced my role at Gleneagles with more enthusiasm and a determination to develop my hospitality skills and those of my team. The Scholarship has helped me improve many things in my career, as well as boosting my motivation to keep inspiring the younger generation, and I will always be grateful for this incredible opportunity.”

Michael Staub (Rosewood) – 2018 Scholar

“Participating in the Gold Service Scholarship has given me access to a powerful network with invaluable mentors, many learning opportunities and motivation to reach for my goals. Winning the Scholarship greatly boosted my career development.”

Daniele Quattromini (Corinthia London) – 2015 Scholar

“The Gold Service Scholarship is a competition to inspire, educate and nurture young front-of-house talent in the UK. I entered for the challenge. It pushed me to learn and educate myself to enhance my service skills. Most importantly, I have been fortunate to create great relationships with the Trustees and other Judges who have helped mentor me – I am so grateful for their support.”
